Monday 20 Oct 2008
GKPS

Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) is pleased to announce the launch of our new GKP Portal, aimed at promoting and supporting stronger connections between actors working in the field of Knowledge and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Development globally.

First launched in 2002, the GKP Portal has been a strategic platform for communicating, sustaining and sharing knowledge about Knowledge & ICT for Development on the global development agenda, in conjunction with our face-to-face events. The GKP Portal has and continues to attract a growing readership over the years, achieving over 8 million pageviews alone in 2007.

GKPportalScreenShotThe introduction of the new GKP Portal also encourages the inclusion of more development actors beyond GKP Network Members, offering free subscription to an extended GKP Community which structure now includes GKP Partners, Advisors, and Friends of GKP. This larger GKP Community is expected to facilitate richer networking amongst organisations and individuals who wish to learn about, support, contribute to, help create or realise partnership-driven solutions which leverage on Knowledge and the transformative potential of ICT to address global development challenges.

Among other functions, the new GKP Portal features an open navigation menu, moderated visitor comment boards, a global map and database of ICT4D initiatives around the world, the list of prevailing ICT4D thematic interests established by all stakeholders, and a new events calendar.

Through its complementary GKPnet sister platform, the GKP Portal offers subscribers – GKP Network Members, Partners, Advisors and Friends – an online community space to connect with peers, to create, drive or participate in initiatives aimed at improving lives, empowering people and reducing poverty around the world.

The GKP Portal will offer additional features over time, including Regional Websites, and we hope you will help us shape this initiative by using it and providing us with feedback.

We invite all Members, Partners and Friends to visit the the new GKP Portal at www.globalknowledge.org and to use GKPnet - the GKP Virtual Community Platform - to engage in online knowledge sharing and partnership building efforts.

Join us in creating opportunities that improve lives globally! Please sign up for a GKPnet ID at www.gkpnet.org.

To ensure to Right to know, ICT is one of the major tools. By creating Awareness in rural people especially for young people who will lead the country in future about ICT we can create knowledge base society. We can create ICT awareness by folk song, drama, school/ college session, court yard session and also village ICT development committee.

I think the GKP Portal and Regional Websites represent a huge step towards making GKP more inclusive, more decentralized and more relevant to Members and Friends. It gives GKP stakeholders the opportunity to drive the network in an entrepreneurial and democratic manner as well as share knowledge, volunteer and engage into worthwhile initiatives to the benefits of all.

We are happy that Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) announced the launch of new GKP Portal. The role of young people is very important to create awareness in the rural people. We should approve cheap loans for young people to make plans and start their activities.
