Strengthening the Regional Voice: Regional Networks

GKP recognises that in harnessing the potential of information and communications technologies (ICT) for development, the issues faced differ from one region in the world to the other. These issues can be unique to a particular region for example, based on the shared culture of the people in the region, or on the geography and dominant language of the region.

The GKP Regional Networks provide members with the opportunity to form partnerships and share knowledge among other members within the same region. The regional network allows members to identify common regional positions which can form the basis for effective advocacy, knowledge sharing and thematic discussions at the global level. Working together on a regional platform can off-set language and cost constraints and at the same time, create a maximum of networking opportunities that extend beyond the GKP membership and increase the legitimacy of GKP advocacy positions.

There are eight GKP Regional Networks, each with its own Regional Websites:

An elected Regional Coordinator (previously known as Regional Focal Point) from among the members coordinates the activities of each regional network. Each Regional Coordinator, elected for a two-year term, develops and implements their respective Regional Coordinator Workplan:

While membership of GKP Regional Networks is restricted to GKP members, non-members are encouraged to collaborate with the networks by contacting the respective coordinators for more information.

Notes:

GKP Members belonging to these Regional Networks can login via the GKP Portal to connect with members of their Regional Network(s) by using GKPnet.Groups.

GKP Members who wish to participate in a Regional Network to which they are not already subscribed to may also login to make a request the respective Regional Coordinator to join his/her Regional Network Group.

Non-GKP Members who wish to collaborate in any of these Regional Networks can do so by contacting the respective Regional Coordinators.
