Local Content Awards

Partner: Open Knowledge Network

The Yeomans Award for Local Content encourages and brings to international recognition projects and experiences which demonstrate the transformative nature of local content, and the methodologies used to achieve this in different contexts. Local content is the expression of the locally owned and adapted knowledge of a community where the community is defined by its location, culture, language, or area of interest.

The Award is a tribute to the work of Keith Yeomans, Senior Information and Communication Technologies Adviser at the UK Department for International Development (DFID), who passed away in March 2004. Keith was a tireless advocate for local content and social inclusion in the global information society, and chaired the UN ICT Task Force Local Content Committee as well as serving as a member of the World Summit on the Information Society ICT4D (ICT for Development) International Advisory Panel.
